Operation Guardian Targets Illegal Commercial Drivers In Oklahoma

The joint federal-state enforcement effort known as Operation Guardian has identified hundreds of illegal or improperly credentialed commercial drivers operating on Oklahoma highways during its first year.

The operation, coordinated between the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, focuses heavily on commercial vehicle enforcement along major interstate corridors including I-35 and I-40.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, the expanding Operation Guardian initiative has now identified or apprehended more than 600 commercial drivers accused of operating illegally, lacking proper training, or using fraudulent credentials.

State officials say the program also includes child welfare investigations and human trafficking enforcement efforts tied to interstate transportation routes.

Operation Guardian Focuses On Commercial Truck Enforcement

A major component of Operation Guardian involves identifying unsafe or unauthorized commercial truck drivers operating large tractor-trailers throughout Oklahoma.

Officials say many of the drivers stopped during the sweeps were allegedly operating 80,000-pound commercial vehicles using unverifiable or fraudulent commercial driver’s licenses.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, some licenses originated from states with less restrictive verification standards, creating concerns about commercial driver training and roadway safety.

Troopers assigned to Operation Guardian have conducted targeted highway enforcement operations along heavily traveled freight corridors across the state.

Law enforcement officials say the operation is intended to improve public safety by removing unqualified commercial drivers from Oklahoma roads.

Operation Guardian Also Involves Child Welfare Investigations

The expanding Operation Guardian program also includes child welfare investigations connected to interstate trafficking concerns.

According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the initiative has helped recover 147 endangered children and 61 children connected to Amber Alerts during its first year.

Officials say the operation specifically targets situations involving undocumented minors placed with sponsors who later become difficult for authorities to locate or monitor.

Investigators also report encountering multiple individuals with active felony warrants during highway sweeps and enforcement operations.

Expanded Federal Authority Granted To Oklahoma Troopers

The scope of Operation Guardian has continued expanding through agreements between Oklahoma and federal immigration authorities.

Under the federal 287(g) program, specially trained Oklahoma troopers have been granted additional authority to question and detain individuals suspected of immigration violations during enforcement operations.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the agreements allow increased coordination between federal immigration officials and local law enforcement agencies.

State officials say Operation Guardian remains active and ongoing as highway enforcement operations continue throughout Oklahoma.
