Oklahoma Teacher Mentorship Program Launches Statewide
The Oklahoma teacher mentorship program is officially launching statewide as education leaders attempt to improve teacher recruitment, retention, and classroom support across Oklahoma schools.
The Oklahoma State Department of Education announced the new Educator Launch and Mentorship Initiative designed specifically to support first-year teachers entering Oklahoma classrooms.
According to the Oklahoma State Department of Education, the new Oklahoma teacher mentorship program will provide direct financial incentives, intensive summer training, and year-long mentorship support for educators.
State officials say the initiative aims to reduce teacher turnover while strengthening classroom preparedness for new instructors across Oklahoma.
Oklahoma Teacher Mentorship Program Includes Summer Institute
A major component of the Oklahoma teacher mentorship program is the new five-day Summer Launch Institute scheduled for July 27 through July 31, 2026.
The institute will provide foundational training focused on classroom management, lesson planning, instructional strategies, and data-driven teaching methods.
According to the Oklahoma State Department of Education, first-year educators participating in the training can earn up to $2,000 in stipends.
Mentors participating in the Oklahoma teacher mentorship program may receive up to $10,000 for supporting new teachers throughout the school year.
Education leaders say the program is designed to better prepare teachers for the challenges they often face during their first years inside the classroom.
Mentors Will Provide Year-Long Classroom Support
The Oklahoma teacher mentorship program will continue beyond the summer institute through monthly mentorship and instructional coaching.
Mentors will include experienced educators, retired teachers, and former classroom instructors working directly with new teachers statewide.
According to the OSDE Educator Launch and Mentorship Initiative portal, mentors will assist with classroom observations, instructional problem-solving, lesson support, and ongoing professional guidance.
The state says the long-term coaching approach is intended to strengthen educator confidence while improving teacher retention rates.
Applications Now Open Across Oklahoma
Applications for the new Oklahoma teacher mentorship program are currently open for eligible mentors across the state.
School districts are also being asked to identify qualifying first-year teachers, including traditionally certified, alternatively certified, and emergency-certified educators.
According to the Oklahoma State Department of Education, districts must register participating teachers to ensure they are paired with mentors before the summer institute begins.
Officials say the initiative represents one of Oklahoma’s newest efforts to address educator shortages while supporting long-term classroom success statewide.
