Oklahoma State Football Lands Two Major Big 12 Preseason Honors
The Oklahoma State football preseason honors continue to build excitement in Stillwater as the Cowboys earned two of the Big 12 Conference's top preseason recognitions ahead of the 2026 season. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker was voted the Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year, while wide receiver Wyatt Young earned a spot on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team after a vote of media members covering the 16-team conference.
Both players transferred to Oklahoma State after standout seasons at North Texas, following new Cowboys head coach Eric Morris to Stillwater as the program looks to reshape its offense heading into the 2026 campaign.
Oklahoma State Football Preseason Honors Highlight New Offensive Stars
The Oklahoma State football preseason honors begin with quarterback Drew Mestemaker, who arrives in Stillwater after posting one of the nation's most impressive statistical seasons in 2025.
Mestemaker led all Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) quarterbacks with 4,379 passing yards while finishing second nationally with 34 touchdown passes against just nine interceptions. His production helped earn him the conference's Preseason Newcomer of the Year honor before taking his first snap for the Cowboys.
Joining him is wide receiver Wyatt Young, who was selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 Offensive Team after becoming one of the conference's most productive receivers last season.
Young hauled in 70 receptions for 1,264 yards and 10 touchdowns while serving as Mestemaker's top target at North Texas. Oklahoma State coaches hope the established chemistry between the quarterback and receiver will accelerate the Cowboys' offensive transition under Morris.

Eric Morris Brings Familiar Offensive Firepower To Stillwater
The arrival of Mestemaker and Young represents a significant piece of Eric Morris' plan to modernize Oklahoma State's offense.
After successful seasons together at North Texas, the trio reunites in Stillwater with expectations of bringing a fast-paced, explosive passing attack to Boone Pickens Stadium.
The Cowboys enter the season with renewed optimism after Morris was hired to lead the program, and conference media members have already recognized the immediate impact expected from Oklahoma State's transfer additions.
The preseason honors also place additional attention on Oklahoma State entering the season, as conference voters identified the Cowboys' new quarterback and top receiver among the league's premier players before the opening kickoff.
