Oklahoma Softball Eyes 10th Straight WCWS Trip
The powerhouse Oklahoma softball program is now just one series away from another trip to the Women’s College World Series as the Sooners prepare to face Mississippi State in the NCAA Super Regionals.
Third-ranked Oklahoma enters the matchup with a dominant 51-8 record and is pursuing its 10th consecutive WCWS appearance.
The best-of-three Super Regional series will take place at Love’s Field in Norman.
The high-stakes Oklahoma softball showdown also features a major storyline involving former Sooners star and current Mississippi State head coach Samantha Ricketts.
Oklahoma Softball Dominated Regional Play
The young Oklahoma softball roster enters the Super Regionals after overpowering opponents during NCAA Regional action.
The Sooners outscored opponents 28-1 during regional competition while blasting eight home runs across three games.
Freshman and sophomore players make up 14 of Oklahoma’s 22 roster spots, but the youthful lineup showed little postseason inexperience.
According to official NCAA Softball statistics, Oklahoma pitchers allowed just six total hits and one earned run during the regional round.
Players including Kasidi Pickering, Kai Minor, Ailana Agbayani, and Kendall Wells helped power the explosive Sooners offense.
Samantha Ricketts Returns To Norman
One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Oklahoma softball Super Regional centers around Mississippi State coach Samantha Ricketts.
Ricketts starred at Oklahoma under legendary coach Patty Gasso from 2006 through 2009.
She remains among Oklahoma’s all-time leaders in home runs and RBIs.
According to Oklahoma Sooners Athletics, this marks Ricketts’ second Super Regional appearance as Mississippi State head coach.
The Bulldogs are seeking the first Women’s College World Series berth in program history.
Mississippi State Brings Dangerous Pitching
Mississippi State enters the Oklahoma softball series with momentum after sweeping through the Eugene Regional.
Bulldogs ace pitcher Alyssa Faircloth delivered one of the nation’s most dominant regional performances.
Faircloth threw a no-hitter against Oregon before following it with a 14-strikeout shutout performance against Saint Mary’s.
The Sooners, however, still hold an undefeated 11-0 all-time record against Mississippi State.
According to NCAA postseason records, Oklahoma’s powerful offense currently leads the nation with a remarkable .392 team batting average.
The winner of the series advances to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
