State Investigation Leads to Settlement

Nine independent pharmacies in Oklahoma have agreed to pay $157,000 to settle allegations they fraudulently billed SoonerCare, the state’s Medicaid program, for unauthorized COVID-19 tests.

According to the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, the pharmacies billed the state for hundreds of over-the-counter tests that lacked prescriptions or authorization for reimbursement. Investigators say the practice violated Medicaid rules designed to prevent misuse of taxpayer funds.

Pharmacies Agree to Repay Funds

The settlement closes the case without the pharmacies admitting guilt. Each agreed to repay money and cooperate with compliance measures to prevent future errors. The Attorney General’s Office said the recovered funds will be returned to the state’s Medicaid budget, supporting legitimate medical and pharmacy services for Oklahoma patients.

Protecting Medicaid Integrity

Officials emphasized that any Medicaid fraud drains critical resources from the healthcare system. By enforcing billing laws, the state ensures that SoonerCare funds reach those who need them most. The AG’s office continues monitoring health providers statewide, pledging zero tolerance for fraud or waste.

Health advocates praised the enforcement, saying accountability protects both patients and providers who follow proper procedures. The settlement marks another step toward restoring public trust in Oklahoma’s Medicaid oversight.
