Oklahoma House Completes Bill Filing for 2026 Legislative Session

Bill filing is complete for the 2026 Oklahoma legislative session in the House of Representatives, marking the official close of the filing period ahead of lawmakers returning to the Capitol.

House officials report a total of 1,578 Oklahoma House Bills and 50 joint resolutions were submitted before the deadline. In addition, approximately 1,600 House bills from the previous year remain eligible for consideration during the upcoming session.

The Oklahoma Legislature is scheduled to convene on February 2, when Governor Kevin Stitt delivers the annual State of the State address at noon.

What the bill filing numbers mean

Legislative leaders say the volume of bills reflects a broad range of policy priorities, including education, public safety, taxes, healthcare, and economic development. Once the session begins, proposed legislation will be assigned to committees for hearings and debate.

Measures that advance out of committee may be considered by the full House before potentially moving to the Senate. Lawmakers note that many bills filed each year do not advance beyond early stages.

Timeline for the 2026 session

Under the Oklahoma Constitution, the Legislature must adjourn by the final Friday in May. During that time, lawmakers will work to pass a balanced budget and consider legislation that could impact residents statewide.

Capitol officials say the filing deadline provides transparency for lawmakers and the public ahead of the session, allowing time to review proposals before formal debate begins.
