Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Injured on I-40
An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper has been released from the hospital after being struck by a truck while on duty along Interstate 40, according to OHP officials. The driver of the truck involved in the crash later died.
Crash Happened During Traffic Control
Troopers say the incident occurred while the Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper was outside his patrol vehicle, working to divert traffic around a stalled semi-truck on I-40. Investigators say the truck driver struck the trooper’s vehicle and the trooper before coming to a stop.
The trooper was transported to the hospital for treatment and has since been released. His injuries were not described as life-threatening.
Driver Dies, Investigation Continues
The driver of the truck involved in the crash died following the incident. Authorities have not yet released the cause of death or whether a medical emergency contributed to the crash. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the cause remains under investigation.
Reminder About Oklahoma’s Move Over Law
Troopers are using the crash as a reminder for drivers to slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles with flashing lights. Oklahoma’s Move Over Law requires motorists to change lanes when possible or significantly reduce speed to help protect first responders.
