Tip Leads to Major Seizure Inside Jail
Investigators at the Oklahoma County Detention Center confiscated a significant amount of fentanyl after receiving a tip that led to a targeted search of an inmate’s cell. The discovery took place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, and officials say the narcotics were hidden among personal property.
Tests confirmed the drugs were fentanyl, weighing 39 grams, a quantity large enough to pose serious risks inside the jail.
Leadership Praises Staff Response
“This discovery underscores the dangers fentanyl poses inside the jail and the importance of proactive intelligence gathering,” said Paul Timmons, Interim CEO of the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
“Our team acted swiftly to remove a deadly substance from circulation and to protect the safety of staff and detainees. I am proud of the professionalism and dedication our staff demonstrate every day.”
Suspect Identified in Jail and Charged
The suspect, 32-year-old Kassandra Escobar, had been booked into the jail on August 25 by Oklahoma City Police. At the time, she was facing charges of:
Aggravated Trafficking of Illegal Drugs
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
She now faces an additional aggravated trafficking charge connected to the fentanyl seizure.
Why This Matters
Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid far more potent than heroin, has fueled overdose deaths across Oklahoma and the U.S. Its presence inside jails and prisons presents even greater risks to detainees and staff due to the high possibility of accidental exposure.
The investigation remains ongoing as jail officials work to determine how the narcotics entered the facility.
