Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Program Awards More Than $2 Million Annually

The Miss Oklahoma Organization continues to be one of the state's most recognizable scholarship programs, awarding more than $2 million in scholarships annually while preparing young women for leadership opportunities through the Miss America Organization.

As the 2026 Miss Oklahoma Competition approaches, organizers are highlighting the program's rich history, statewide impact, and long-standing tradition of developing leaders who represent Oklahoma on the national stage.

From its early beginnings in Oklahoma City to its decades-long run in Tulsa and recent return to the capital city, the organization has remained one of the strongest state programs within the Miss America system.

Today, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community leaders from across Oklahoma continue working together to support the program and its scholarship mission.

Miss Oklahoma Has Deep Roots In State History

The history of Miss Oklahoma dates back nearly a century.

To date, 90 women have represented Oklahoma at the Miss America Competition, while 95 women have worn the title of Miss Oklahoma due to state titleholders advancing to Miss America and runners-up assuming the state crown.

Early competitions were held at the First Christian Church in Oklahoma City before the event moved to Tulsa in 1964.

The competition remained in Tulsa for more than six decades before returning to Oklahoma City in 2025.

During its years in Tulsa, the Kiwanis Club of Tulsa played a major role in supporting the program through volunteers, sponsors, and community partnerships.

Today, the organization is led by Board Chairman and President Jack P. Cooper, Executive Director Kay Alexander, and a leadership team composed of volunteers from communities across Oklahoma.

Additional information about the program's history and leadership can be found through the Miss Oklahoma Organization.

Miss Oklahoma Scholarships Support Students Across The State

At its core, the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Foundation focuses on educational opportunities.

The organization distributes more than $2 million in scholarships each year through local and state competitions.

Scholarships are awarded not only to state winners but also to runners-up and participants competing throughout Oklahoma.

Both Miss Oklahoma and Miss Oklahoma's Teen receive cash scholarships, along with the opportunity to select additional in-kind scholarships offered by Oklahoma colleges and universities.

Program leaders say the scholarship component remains one of the most important aspects of the organization, helping young women pursue higher education while developing leadership and communication skills.

Information about scholarship opportunities and educational programs can also be found through the Miss America Organization.

Oklahoma Has Produced Multiple National Winners

The success of the Miss Oklahoma Organization extends beyond the state level.

Oklahoma has produced six Miss America winners and two Miss America's Teen national titleholders.

Those achievements have helped establish Oklahoma as one of the strongest state programs in the country.

Organizers credit that success to the dedication of volunteers, sponsors, local competition directors, and former titleholders who continue mentoring the next generation of contestants.

The organization is also actively seeking volunteers and donors who want to support scholarship opportunities and leadership development programs for young women across the state.

Additional information about volunteering, donations, and upcoming events is available through the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Foundation.

As preparations continue for the next competition, the Miss Oklahoma Organization remains focused on providing educational opportunities, developing future leaders, and continuing a tradition that has impacted thousands of young women across Oklahoma.
