Mayor Holt Proclaims Citywide Celebration
OKLAHOMA CITY — The city is going blue today as fans celebrate OKC Thunder Day, a citywide event honoring the team’s first NBA championship and the start of a brand-new season.
Mayor David Holt announced the proclamation Tuesday, declaring October 21, 2025, as a day dedicated to celebrating the Oklahoma City Thunder. The timing couldn’t be better — it coincides with the team’s season opener at Paycom Center.
Championship Rings and Banner Unveiling
Mayor Holt said the Thunder’s victory deserves lasting recognition. Before tipoff Tuesday night, fans will witness a ring ceremony and the unveiling of a permanent championship banner inside the arena — a first for Oklahoma City basketball.
“Not only are fans celebrating the Thunder’s first season game, but also their accomplishments as champions,” Holt said. “It’s a close of one chapter and the start of another.”
The celebration marks a historic moment for the city, which has supported the Thunder since their arrival in 2008.
Fans Encouraged to Show Their Thunder Pride
Throughout the day, residents and fans are encouraged to wear Thunder gear, fly team flags, and show hometown spirit across the metro. Businesses, schools, and local landmarks are expected to light up in blue to honor the team’s incredible journey.
More events and surprises are expected as the city continues to celebrate the championship and kick off a promising new season.
The Thunder’s story — from a small-market underdog to NBA champion — continues to inspire pride and unity across Oklahoma.
