Oklahoma Absentee Ballot Deadline Is Today For June Primary
The deadline to request an Oklahoma absentee ballot for the June 16 Primary Election is today. According to the Oklahoma State Election Board, absentee ballot applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. Friday in order for voters to participate by mail.
Election officials are encouraging registered voters who plan to vote by mail to submit their Oklahoma absentee ballot requests immediately to avoid missing the deadline.
Unlike some states, Oklahoma does not require voters to provide a reason for requesting an absentee ballot.
Oklahoma Absentee Ballot Requests Due By 5 P.M.
According to the OK Voter Portal, any registered Oklahoma voter may request an Oklahoma absentee ballot for the upcoming election.
However, state law requires applications to be received by election officials no later than 5 p.m. on the third Monday preceding Election Day.
Election officials also remind voters that only the voter may generally submit his or her own absentee ballot request.
Some voters may be required to complete additional address verification paperwork before receiving an absentee ballot.
This may apply to voters who:
Have been classified as inactive voters
Have recently moved according to National Change of Address records
Have addresses flagged by the United States Postal Service
Have had voter identification cards returned as undeliverable
Officials say affected voters should complete an address confirmation form along with their absentee ballot application.
Oklahoma Absentee Ballot Program Includes Multiple Voting Categories
The Oklahoma absentee ballot program serves several groups of voters across the state.
Special absentee voting procedures are available for:
Military and Overseas Voters
Physically Incapacitated Voters
Caregivers
Nursing Home Residents
Veterans Center Residents
Visually Impaired Voters
Emergency Responders
According to the Oklahoma State Election Board Absentee Voting Information, all absentee voters must comply with Oklahoma identification requirements when casting ballots.
Officials also note that absentee ballot affidavits may be notarized at no cost.
Oklahoma law prohibits notaries from charging fees to notarize absentee ballot affidavits.
Early Voting Begins Next Week
Voters who miss today's Oklahoma absentee ballot deadline still have another option before Election Day.
In-person absentee voting, commonly referred to as early voting, begins Thursday before the June 16 Primary Election.
No excuse is required to vote early.
Voters must cast their ballots in the county where they are registered and should verify locations and operating hours through their local county election board.
Election officials encourage voters to make a voting plan now and verify registration information before heading to the polls.
