Bixby City Manager Suspended After Second Aggravated DUI Arrest

The Bixby City Council has suspended Bixby City Manager Joey Wiedel following his arrest in Wagoner County on an aggravated DUI complaint — his second aggravated DUI-related incident in less than a year.

According to the Wagoner Police Department arrest affidavit, officers stopped Wiedel late Monday night after receiving reports of a reckless driver repeatedly drifting off Highway 51.

The arrest has now triggered both criminal consequences and major leadership disruptions inside Bixby city government.

Joey Wiedel Arrested Following 911 Call

According to the Wagoner County arrest affidavit, the investigation began after an EMS driver called 911 on Monday evening, May 25, to report a pickup truck repeatedly veering off the roadway along Highway 51.

Police later located Joey Wiedel at a gas station in Wagoner County.

Investigators noted several visible signs of intoxication during the traffic stop, including:

  • Slurred speech

  • Bloodshot eyes

  • Failed field sobriety tests

According to jail records, a breathalyzer test allegedly showed Wiedel had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.21%, which is nearly three times Oklahoma’s legal limit of 0.08%.

The Wagoner County Jail booking records show Wiedel was booked into custody at approximately 1:23 a.m. Tuesday before being released later that afternoon around 5:00 p.m.

New DUI Arrest Allegedly Violates Existing Probation

Court records reveal Joey Wiedel was already serving a deferred sentence connected to a previous aggravated DUI arrest in Okmulgee County during August 2025.

According to the Okmulgee County District Court, Wiedel had recently entered a guilty plea tied to that earlier arrest earlier this month.

Because the prior case involved a one-year deferred sentence, the newest aggravated DUI arrest could now place Wiedel in direct violation of his active probation conditions.

Legal experts note deferred sentences can often be accelerated into formal convictions if probation terms are violated.

Additional court proceedings are expected in both Wagoner County and Okmulgee County as the case develops.

Bixby City Council Names Interim Leadership

Following the arrest, the Bixby City Council issued an immediate suspension while officials review Wiedel’s employment status and monitor the legal process.

City leaders emphasized transparency in announcing the suspension publicly.

Wiedel has worked for the city for approximately 21 years, previously serving as Bixby fire chief before becoming permanent city manager in early 2025.

To avoid operational disruptions, Bixby Police Chief Todd Blish has now been appointed acting city manager.

According to city officials, Blish will temporarily oversee both leadership roles while the city evaluates next steps involving the ongoing criminal case.
