OKC Animal Welfare Adoption Event Lets Families Choose Their Own Fee
The OKC Animal Welfare adoption event is giving prospective pet owners a chance to bring home a new companion while helping relieve overcrowding at the city's animal shelter.
For a limited time, Oklahoma City Animal Welfare is allowing adopters to choose their own adoption fee for eligible dogs as the shelter responds to a growing number of medium- and large-sized dogs entering its care.
The special promotion runs June 25 through June 27 at the shelter located at 2811 SE 29th Street in Oklahoma City.
Shelter officials say increasing intake has placed significant pressure on kennel space, making adoptions one of the fastest ways the community can help.
OKC Animal Welfare Adoption Event Aims To Reduce Overcrowding
The OKC Animal Welfare adoption event features a "choose your own fee" promotion for participating dogs identified by a blue kennel card.
Visitors can stop by the shelter between noon and 5 p.m. during the event and select their own adoption fee while giving a homeless dog a permanent family.
According to OKC Animal Welfare Superintendent Johny Sandoval, the shelter continues receiving dogs faster than they are being adopted, creating additional strain on available kennel space.
Sandoval says community members can make a significant difference not only by adopting, but also by sharing photos of adoptable pets and encouraging friends and family who may be looking for a new companion.
Additional adoption information is available through the OKC Animal Welfare Official Website.
Every Adopted Dog Receives Veterinary Care
Families participating in the OKC Animal Welfare adoption event receive more than just a new pet.
Every adopted dog goes home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and preventative care.
Each adoption also includes a collar and identification tag to help pets safely transition into their new homes.
To complete the adoption process, visitors simply need to bring a valid photo ID when arriving at the shelter.
Officials hope removing financial barriers through the flexible adoption fee promotion will encourage more families to consider adopting.

Community Encouraged To Help Shelter Pets Find Homes
While the OKC Animal Welfare adoption event focuses on increasing adoptions, shelter officials say community support goes beyond adopting a pet.
Residents can also help by sharing adoptable dogs on social media, telling friends and neighbors about the event, or volunteering with local animal welfare organizations.
OKC Animal Welfare works year-round to reunite lost pets with their owners, promote responsible pet ownership, and improve lifesaving outcomes through adoption and community partnerships.
As intake continues to rise, shelter leaders hope this special promotion will help more dogs find loving homes while creating additional space for animals still arriving each day.
Additional information about responsible pet ownership is available through the American Veterinary Medical Association Pet Care Resources.
Anyone considering adding a four-legged family member is encouraged to visit the OKC Animal Welfare adoption event, where choosing a new best friend could also help save another animal waiting for a second chance.
