OHP Trooper, Pauls Valley Officer Shoot Armed Pursuit Suspect

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer-involved shooting is under investigation after an OHP trooper and a Pauls Valley Police Department officer shot an armed suspect following a vehicle pursuit that began in Purcell and ended in Pauls Valley.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the suspect was injured during the confrontation and transported by air ambulance to a hospital. Authorities say the suspect was armed with a long gun when he fled from his vehicle following the chase.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The Garvin County Sheriff's Office has assumed responsibility for the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.


Oklahoma Highway Patrol Assists Purcell Police Pursuit

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the incident began around 4 p.m. when troopers were asked to assist the Purcell Police Department with an active vehicle pursuit.

Authorities say the chase traveled southbound along Interstate 35 before entering Garvin County.

The pursuit eventually came to an end near Airline Road and County Road 3220 in Pauls Valley.

Investigators reported that after stopping, the suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.


Oklahoma Highway Patrol Officer-Involved Shooting Follows Armed Confrontation

According to preliminary information released by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the suspect was carrying a long gun when he fled from the vehicle.

Authorities say an OHP trooper and a Pauls Valley Police Department officer both discharged their weapons during the encounter.

The suspect was struck and seriously injured.

Emergency responders requested an air ambulance, and the suspect was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Officials have not yet released the suspect's identity or condition.

Law enforcement agencies have also not disclosed what events immediately preceded the shooting.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer-involved shooting remains under active investigation.


Garvin County Sheriff's Office Leading Investigation

As is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting, an outside agency has been assigned to investigate the incident.

According to the Garvin County Sheriff's Office, investigators are gathering evidence, reviewing witness statements, and examining the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.

Officials confirmed that no members of law enforcement were injured during the incident.

Additional information, including the suspect's identity and any potential charges, is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.

The Pauls Valley Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol have not announced when further updates may become available.
