OHP Investigating Fatal Accident Involving 1-Year-Old Near Pryor

The fatal accident near Pryor involving a 1-year-old child remains under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol after a tragic incident Tuesday evening claimed the life of a toddler in Mayes County.

According to authorities, the accident occurred just outside Pryor city limits and triggered a large emergency response involving multiple law enforcement, fire, and medical agencies.

Investigators say the child was struck by a vehicle in a private driveway while the driver was attempting to leave the property.

No criminal charges have been announced, and officials describe the incident as a tragic accident.

The child's name has not been released out of respect for the family.

Fatal Accident Near Pryor Happened In Private Driveway

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the fatal accident near Pryor occurred around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at a residence located on Plantation Drive near Highway 69 and West 520 Road.

Troopers reported that 19-year-old Autumn Tuell of Stilwell was operating the vehicle involved in the incident.

Investigators say Tuell was attempting to place the vehicle in reverse in order to turn around and leave the private driveway when the toddler was struck.

Authorities have not indicated that speed, impairment, or reckless driving were factors in the collision.

Because the incident occurred outside the municipal boundaries of Pryor, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol assumed responsibility for the investigation.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, fatal traffic investigations often require extensive scene analysis and witness interviews before final determinations are made.

Multiple Agencies Responded To Medical Emergency

The moments following the fatal accident near Pryor prompted an urgent effort by family members, first responders, and medical personnel to save the child's life.

According to authorities, family members or bystanders placed the injured toddler into a private vehicle and began driving toward emergency assistance.

Pryor Creek police officers intercepted the vehicle while it was en route and immediately began providing emergency medical care.

Additional responders quickly arrived to assist.

The response included personnel from Pryor Creek Fire, Mayes Emergency Services Trust Authority (MESTA), the Mayes County Sheriff's Office, Grand River Dam Authority Police, and the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service.

Despite extensive lifesaving efforts by first responders and medical personnel, the child later died from injuries sustained in the accident.

According to the Mayes Emergency Services Trust Authority (MESTA), emergency crews routinely coordinate with local law enforcement agencies during critical medical incidents across Mayes County.

Investigation Continues As Community Mourns

Authorities have intentionally withheld the identity of the child while family notifications and privacy considerations remain ongoing.
