ODOT Plans to Consolidate Maintenance Yards to Save Millions

50 County Yards Built in the 1950s

Oklahoma Transportation officials say the state operates 50 county maintenance yards, many of which were built in the 1950s and now require expensive upkeep or replacement.

ODOT Director Tim Gatz told State Transportation Commissioners the agency plans to transition from single-county yards to multi-county operational facilities.

Next Consolidations Planned for Eastern and Central Oklahoma

The next consolidation phase will combine operations at:

  • Sallisaw

  • Holdenville

These facilities will begin serving multiple counties under one regional operation.

Officials Say Plan Will Save Millions

Gatz said consolidating facilities will:

  • Reduce maintenance costs

  • Eliminate redundant infrastructure

  • Improve equipment efficiency

  • Allow for better workforce deployment

The transition will occur in phases over the coming years.
