MAPS 4 Stadium Project Breaks Ground In Downtown Oklahoma City

Construction officially begins today on the new MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium, a $121 million project city leaders hope will transform downtown Oklahoma City while creating a permanent home for professional soccer, outdoor entertainment, and future sporting events.

The MAPS 4 stadium project is one of the largest initiatives funded through Oklahoma City's voter-approved MAPS 4 program and is expected to become a major centerpiece of future downtown development.

Officials say the venue will serve as a year-round destination for sports, concerts, community events, and tourism while helping position Oklahoma City for continued growth ahead of the 2028 Olympics and the opening of the city's new NBA arena.

MAPS 4 Stadium Project Features Modern Design And Expandable Seating

The new MAPS 4 stadium project is being designed by Populous, the internationally recognized architecture firm responsible for venues including Emirates Stadium in London and GEODIS Park in Nashville.

According to project plans, the stadium will feature:

  • More than 10,000 seats for soccer events

  • Expandable seating infrastructure for future growth

  • A lightweight canopy roof covering most spectator areas

  • Open north-facing views of the downtown Oklahoma City skyline

  • Programmable LED lighting integrated into the exterior façade

  • Luxury suites and premium club seating

  • Dedicated supporter sections

  • Team locker rooms and field-level seating

City officials say the design balances fan experience, flexibility, and long-term expansion opportunities.

MAPS 4 Stadium Project Anchors New Entertainment District

The MAPS 4 stadium project will be constructed on a nine-acre site south of Oklahoma City Boulevard, east of Shields Boulevard, and just south of Bricktown.

According to the City of Oklahoma City MAPS Program, planners intentionally chose not to build dedicated parking lots for the facility.

Instead, visitors will rely on existing downtown parking infrastructure and the nearby OKC Streetcar system.

The project is also expected to serve as the centerpiece of a larger mixed-use development led by Echo Investment Capital.

Plans surrounding the stadium include:

  • New restaurants

  • Retail development

  • Residential housing

  • Entertainment venues

City leaders believe the surrounding district will generate additional economic activity and increase foot traffic throughout downtown.

MAPS 4 Stadium Project Targets 2028 Opening

The MAPS 4 stadium project will become the future home of OKC Energy FC, which is expected to return to professional soccer competition under a new identity following recent trademark filings.

According to the OKC Energy FC Official Website, the stadium will meet standards approved by the United States Soccer Federation and may also host future United Football League games, high school athletics, and major outdoor concerts.

Funding for the project comes from a combination of:

  • MAPS 4 sales tax revenue

  • The 2025 Oklahoma City bond package

  • Tax Increment Financing (TIF)

  • Private development contributions

According to the Populous Architecture Firm, construction is expected to take approximately 18 months.

Officials are targeting a January 2028 grand opening, coinciding with what is expected to be a historic year for Oklahoma City that includes Olympic-related events and the debut of the city's new NBA arena.
