Legionella Bacteria Detected in Campus Water

Testing of the water system at Rose State College has revealed the presence of Legionella, the bacteria that can cause Legionnaires’ disease — a potentially serious lung infection.

Immediate Response by Maintenance Teams

College maintenance crews took swift action, flushing water lines across the campus and draining both indoor and outdoor water tanks to disinfect the system. Officials say these steps effectively reduce the risk of any potential outbreak.

College Officials Say No Threat to Students

Rose State College officials told KFOR-TV that operations remain normal and there is “no threat to students or staff.” They emphasized that the discovery was precautionary and that the college will continue routine water testing to ensure safety.

Legionella can spread when people inhale contaminated water droplets from plumbing, cooling systems, or fountains, but experts stress the risk at Rose State is minimal after the mitigation efforts.
