Lawton,OK-Signs Posted in Lawton Federal Building

Visitors to a federal building in Lawton are being warned after Legionella bacteria was detected in its drinking water system. Signs inside the facility caution workers and guests about potential exposure.


Oklahoma State Department of Health said no public health investigation is ongoing at the facility at this time.

What is Legionella?

Legionella bacteria can cause Legionnaires’ Disease, a severe form of pneumonia. Symptoms often include coughing, fever, and breathing difficulties.

According to the CDC, Oklahoma has already reported 49 cases of Legionnaires’ Disease in 2025.
