A bill that would require social media companies to verify a user’s age is under consideration by the state Senate. HB1275, which would prohibit anyone under age 16 from having an account and would require consent for 16 and 17-year-olds, was approved by the House earlier this week. Platforms that violate the proposed legislation would be subject to a fine of up to $2,500 per violation, plus other fees.
