Honda Odyssey Recall Affects More Than 325,000 Minivans Over Rearview Camera Defect

A nationwide Honda Odyssey recall has been issued for more than 325,000 minivans after federal safety regulators determined water can leak into the rearview camera system, causing the image to fail while the vehicle is in reverse. The recall affects certain 2018, 2019, and 2020 Honda Odyssey models and expands on an earlier recall issued in 2020.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the defect increases the risk of a crash because drivers may lose the rearview camera display required during backing maneuvers.

Honda will repair the affected vehicles free of charge.

Honda Odyssey Recall Covers Three Model Years

The latest Honda Odyssey recall involves 325,588 vehicles manufactured for the 2018 through 2020 model years.

According to the NHTSA, water can enter the rearview camera housing and corrode an internal printed circuit board. As corrosion develops, the rearview camera image may become distorted, intermittent, or fail completely when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.

The affected vehicles include:

  • 2018 Honda Odyssey: 112,120 vehicles

  • 2019 Honda Odyssey: 138,594 vehicles

  • 2020 Honda Odyssey: 74,874 vehicles

Federal regulators say the campaign also includes vehicles that previously received repairs under a similar rearview camera recall announced in 2020 because the earlier remedy may not fully resolve the issue.

As of the recall announcement, Honda reported no crashes or injuries connected to the defect.

Complete recall information is available through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Recall Database.

Owners Can Receive Free Repairs At Honda Dealerships

Owners affected by the Honda Odyssey recall will receive repairs at no cost.

Honda dealers will replace the original Magna-manufactured rearview camera with an upgraded Sony camera assembly designed to better resist water intrusion.

The repair will be performed free of charge at authorized Honda dealerships.

Vehicle owners can determine whether their Odyssey is included by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into either the NHTSA recall database or Honda's online recall lookup tool.

Honda says official owner notification letters are scheduled to begin mailing August 24, 2026.

Additional recall information is available through Honda Recall Lookup.

Drivers Encouraged To Check Recall Status Promptly

Safety experts encourage owners not to ignore the Honda Odyssey recall, even if the rearview camera appears to be functioning normally.

Rearview camera systems are federally required safety equipment on newer passenger vehicles because they help drivers detect pedestrians, children, and objects that may not be visible through mirrors alone.

A camera that fails unexpectedly while backing can significantly increase the risk of collisions, particularly in parking lots, driveways, and residential neighborhoods.

Owners who have questions before receiving their recall notice may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138 and reference recall campaign HOX.

Federal safety officials also recommend periodically checking for open recalls, as many vehicles remain unrepaired for months or even years after recall notices are issued.

Consumers can search any vehicle for active recalls using the VIN through the NHTSA VIN Recall Lookup.
