
For the past five years, state Lawmakers have been debating the merits of corporal punishment in public schools. In response to an upcoming interim study on the issue, State Representative Ellyn Hefner is speaking against the practice citing its harmful effects on children’s well-being. She points to a study in ‘Pediatrics Magazine’ finding children who are subjected to spanking are more likely to exhibit aggressive behaviors. Other state lawmakers have praised the practice based on biblical scriptures.
