Glenpool Natural Gas Tank Fire Prompts Evacuations, School Lockdowns

The Glenpool natural gas tank fire prompted mandatory evacuations and school lockdowns Monday morning after a massive fire erupted near U.S. Highway 75 and West 126th Street, sending thick black smoke high into the sky that could be seen for miles across the Tulsa metro.

Emergency crews from multiple agencies remain on scene battling the fire as authorities work to secure the area. Officials have ordered evacuations for nearby residents, closed several roads and instructed motorists to avoid the area while firefighters continue their response. At this time, authorities report no injuries and no secondary structure fires connected to the incident.

Glenpool Natural Gas Tank Fire Triggers Evacuations

Mandatory evacuations are in effect on the east side of U.S. Highway 75 between West 126th Street and West 131st Street South.

Residents forced to leave their homes are being directed to the Glenpool Church of Christ, which has been established as the community's evacuation site.

The Glenpool Police Department has closed the immediate area surrounding the fire while firefighters continue suppression efforts and utility crews monitor the scene.

Officials say the fire involves a liquid natural gas storage tank, producing a large plume of heavy black smoke that remains visible across portions of Tulsa County.

Authorities continue urging residents to stay away from the area until emergency responders declare the scene safe.

Schools Sheltering In Place As Firefighters Respond

As a precaution, Glenpool Public Schools placed campuses into a shelter-in-place status while emergency crews worked nearby.

School officials confirmed all students and staff remain safe inside district buildings, and no injuries have been reported.

Traffic has also been significantly impacted by the emergency response.

Officials say West 126th Street South is closed between South Elwood Avenue and Casper Street, with motorists encouraged to use West 121st Street South and South Elwood Avenue as alternate routes.

Updated school information and emergency notifications continue to be shared through the Glenpool Public Schools as the incident develops.

Investigation Will Begin After Fire Is Controlled

Fire investigators are expected to begin determining what caused the blaze once crews are able to safely access the site.

At this stage, authorities have not released information regarding what may have triggered the fire, and emergency operations remain focused on containing the incident and protecting nearby neighborhoods.

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security reminds residents to follow evacuation orders, avoid restricted areas and monitor official updates during active emergencies.

Officials say the response remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as firefighters continue working to bring the massive industrial fire under control.
