MUSTANG, Okla. — A former Mustang Public Schools employee has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison after admitting to a multi-year payroll fraud scheme that cost the district more than $470,000.
Details of the Scheme
Federal prosecutors say Kim Weinrich manipulated the district’s payroll system between July 2016 and April 2022 to unlawfully increase her income.
Investigators discovered that over the course of six years, Weinrich systematically altered payroll records, diverting hundreds of thousands of dollars to herself.
Sentencing and Restitution
In addition to serving 18 months in prison, Weinrich has been ordered to pay full restitution of $470,000 to Mustang Public Schools.
Authorities say the sentence is intended to hold her accountable and serve as a warning against public employee financial crimes.
Impact on the School District
The district has not publicly detailed how the theft was discovered, but officials say internal controls have since been strengthened to prevent similar fraud.
Payroll manipulation cases can have long-term impacts on public trust and funding, especially in school districts where budgets are already tight.
Radio Oklahoma News Network will continue to follow the case and report on any developments regarding restitution payments and district safeguards
