Fairview Boil Water Order Issued After E. Coli Detected In Water Sample

A simple glass of tap water could pose a health risk for Fairview residents today. The Fairview boil water order was issued by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) after routine testing detected a trace amount of E. coli bacteria in the city's water system.

The advisory, issued on June 28, 2026, requires residents to boil tap water before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or other household activities involving consumption.

The boil water order will remain in effect until additional testing confirms the water is safe. DEQ officials say they will notify the public as soon as the advisory is lifted.

Fairview Boil Water Order Requires Immediate Precautions

The Fairview boil water order applies to all tap water used for drinking and food preparation.

Residents should bring tap water to a full rolling boil for at least one minute before consuming it. Boiled or bottled water should also be used for making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, preparing meals, and washing fruits and vegetables.

Officials also recommend discarding any ice that was automatically produced before the advisory was issued since standard refrigerator filters do not remove harmful bacteria.

To assist residents, the City of Fairview is providing free bottled water at the Fairview City Shop on South Main Street while the advisory remains in place.

Additional updates are available through the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality News Releases.

Safe Water Practices Help Protect Families And Pets

Health officials encourage residents to continue practicing safe water habits until the Fairview boil water order is lifted.

Fresh fruits and vegetables should only be washed using boiled or bottled water. Pet owners are also encouraged to provide animals with cooled boiled water or bottled water during the advisory.

Adults may continue showering as long as they avoid swallowing water. However, infants should receive sponge baths to reduce the risk of accidental exposure.

Officials emphasize that following these precautions can significantly reduce the risk of illness while the water system is being evaluated.

Additional health guidance is available through the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

Water Testing Will Continue Until Advisory Is Lifted

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality will continue monitoring Fairview's water system through additional testing in the coming days.

The boil water advisory will remain in effect until laboratory results confirm the water supply no longer poses a health concern.

Residents are encouraged to continue checking official updates before returning to normal water use.

City and state officials say protecting public health remains the top priority as crews work to ensure the community's drinking water meets all safety standards.

Additional drinking water information is available through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Drinking Water Resources.

As testing continues, residents should continue following the Fairview boil water order and use boiled or bottled water until officials announce the advisory has been lifted.
