Durant Artist Janie Semple Umsted Appointed to Institute of American Indian Arts Board of Trustees

A Choctaw artist, Janie Semple Umsted, has been appointed by President Joe Biden to the Institute of American Indian Arts Board of Trustees.

Umsted depicts Choctaw history through her vibrant paintings- many of which are on display at the Choctaw National Historical Museum. She has lived in Durant her entire life and is a descendant of two Choctaw chiefs.
