AAA Warns Oklahoma Drivers of Deer Collision Spike
Annual Accidents Now Top 2 Million Nationwide
Collisions between vehicles and deer continue to rise across the country. AAA reports more than 2 million deer-related accidents occur each year, leading to over 440 fatalities nationwide.
With deer in their peak mating season, Oklahoma roads are especially hazardous during early morning and evening hours.
Oklahoma Repair Costs Up 16%
Oklahoma drivers face increased financial risk this year. AAA data shows the average cost of vehicle damage from a deer collision in Oklahoma is now over $7,000, an increase of 16% compared to last year.
That cost can be even higher if the crash involves high speeds or smaller vehicles.
Drivers Urged to Stay Alert in High-Risk Areas
Oklahoma wildlife officials and insurance experts encourage drivers to slow down in rural areas, avoid swerving sharply to avoid deer, and use high beams when possible to scan the shoulders of the road.
Deer movement remains elevated through late fall.
