Buddy Hield Jersey Retirement Set for February Ceremony at OU

A Buddy Hield jersey retirement is set to take place next month at the University of Oklahoma, honoring one of the most accomplished players in Sooners basketball history.

OU officials say Hield’s jersey will be retired during a halftime ceremony on February 21, when the Sooners host Texas A&M at the Lloyd Noble Center. The event will mark a major milestone for the former Oklahoma star and celebrate his lasting impact on the program.

Buddy Hield jersey retirement honors historic career

Hield played at Oklahoma from 2012 to 2016 and became one of the most decorated players in school history. He was a two-time Big 12 Player of the Year and the 2016 National Player of the Year, leading the Sooners to a Final Four appearance.

University officials say the Buddy Hield jersey retirement recognizes both his individual achievements and his role in elevating the national profile of Oklahoma basketball.

2015–16 team reunion planned

Members of the 2015–16 Oklahoma team, along with former head coach Lon Kruger, are expected to attend the ceremony as part of a 10-year reunion. That season remains one of the most successful in program history.

OU Athletics says the reunion will give fans a chance to celebrate a defining era of Sooners basketball.

Legacy at Oklahoma and beyond

After leaving Oklahoma, Hield went on to a successful NBA career, continuing to represent the program at the professional level. University leaders say his jersey retirement reflects not only his on-court success, but his lasting connection to the school.
