Oklahoma House Speaker Removes Rep. Danny Williams From Leadership Posts During Investigation
Oklahoma House Speaker Kyle Hilbert has removed State Rep. Danny Williams from his committee chairmanships and stripped him of several legislative privileges following an internal investigation into allegations of improper conduct involving a House employee.
The disciplinary actions come after a six-week investigation conducted by House Human Resources and an outside law firm. The findings have now been referred to the Oklahoma House Rules Committee, which could consider additional disciplinary action against the Seminole Republican.
Danny Williams Investigation Results In Leadership Changes
According to the Oklahoma House of Representatives, Williams has been indefinitely removed from his committee chairmanships, lost access to his legislative assistant and has been reassigned from his Capitol office to a smaller office on the building's fifth floor.
Speaker Hilbert said the actions followed an investigation into allegations of improper conduct toward a House employee.
House officials said the review included interviews with eight current and former House staff members conducted by House Human Resources and an independent investigative law firm.
During the investigation, officials also identified a separate issue involving the possible misuse of state resources.
The findings related to both matters have been forwarded to the House Rules Committee, which will determine whether additional disciplinary action is warranted.
House Rules Committee Will Review Findings
Speaker Hilbert said the committee will review the investigative findings and determine what recommendations, if any, should be made to the full House.
According to the Oklahoma Constitution, expelling a member of the Legislature requires a two-thirds vote of the chamber.
The allegation involving the possible misuse of state resources may also be reviewed by the Oklahoma Ethics Commission if officials determine the matter falls within the agency's jurisdiction.
No criminal charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Democratic Party Calls For Williams To Resign
Following the announcement, the Oklahoma Democratic Party called on Williams to resign immediately and withdraw from his campaign for another term representing House District 28, which includes Seminole County and portions of northern Pottawatomie County.
Williams is seeking a fourth consecutive term in the Oklahoma House during the Nov. 3, 2026 General Election.
If the House Rules Committee ultimately recommends expulsion, it would mark an extraordinary moment in Oklahoma legislative history. According to the Oklahoma Almanac, no member of the Oklahoma Legislature has ever been formally expelled by a vote of the House or Senate, with lawmakers facing major scandals historically choosing to resign before that step became necessary.
