Arcadia Lake shooting suspect faces murder charge after deadly mass shooting

The investigation into the Arcadia Lake shooting took a major turn Wednesday after authorities confirmed an 18-year-old suspect surrendered to police and is now facing upgraded charges tied to the deadly violence near Edmond.

Police say Jaylan Amhad Davis, 18, turned himself in on May 6 and is currently being held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.

Investigators say Davis was initially booked on complaints of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, but prosecutors are now pursuing a first-degree felony murder charge following the death of one of the victims.

Arcadia Lake shooting left 23 victims

The deadly Arcadia Lake shooting happened during an unsanctioned “Sunday Funday” gathering at the Scissortail Campground on May 3.

According to investigators, what began as an argument between two women escalated into a gunfight involving suspected rival gang members.

Authorities say the shooting left 23 victims total, including one person killed and 22 others injured.

Among the wounded were several juveniles, with some victims reportedly as young as 15 years old.

The criminal investigation is being led by the Edmond Police Department.

Victim remembered as high school senior preparing for graduation

The fatal victim in the Arcadia Lake shooting was identified as 18-year-old Avianna Smith-Gray.

Family members say Smith-Gray died May 5 after suffering a gunshot wound to the head.

Relatives described her as a smart and caring young woman who had been preparing to graduate from high school.

Her death shifted the investigation into a homicide case as prosecutors with the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office reviewed upgraded charges connected to the shooting.

Police say evidence links suspect to shooting scene

Investigators say evidence collected during the Arcadia Lake shooting investigation helped connect Davis to the scene.

According to investigators, police found 7.62-caliber rifle ammunition during a search of Davis’s home that reportedly matched shell casings recovered at Arcadia Lake.

Authorities also say forensic evidence suggests multiple weapons were used during the exchange of gunfire.

Investigators are continuing forensic analysis of shell casings, weapons evidence, and digital footage as the case develops, work that can involve support from agencies such as the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation during large-scale violent crime investigations.

Investigation remains active

Authorities say the Arcadia Lake shooting investigation is far from over.

Detectives continue reviewing witness statements, cellphone video, and digital evidence as they work to identify all individuals involved in the confrontation.

Edmond city leaders have also indicated additional discussions surrounding park security and large unsanctioned gatherings are expected following the shooting.
