Alzheimer’s Coordination Office Bill Advances

The Alzheimer’s coordination office bill has advanced in the Oklahoma State Senate after approval from the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.

The measure, Senate Bill 1428, was authored by State Senator Mark Mann and would create a new state office focused on helping families affected by dementia.

The office would operate within the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

Alzheimer’s Coordination Office Bill Addresses Growing Need

Supporters say the Alzheimer’s coordination office bill responds to a growing need for support services across Oklahoma.

Lawmakers estimate about 71,000 Oklahomans age 65 and older are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease.

The proposal also aims to provide support and resources for more than 108,000 family caregivers across the state.

Bill Heads to Next Committee

The Alzheimer’s coordination office bill would focus on connecting patients and families with services, education programs and potential grant opportunities.

Following approval by the Oklahoma State Senate committee, the bill is now eligible to move to the Senate Appropriations Committee for further consideration.
