Weatherford Adds Giant Astronaut to Route 66 Near Space Museum

Weatherford, OK-A Giant Landmark for Route 66

Weatherford has unveiled a 30-foot astronaut statue along Route 66, just in time for the highway’s upcoming 100th birthday celebration.

The installation complements the city’s Stafford Air and Space Museum, named after Weatherford native and astronaut Thomas Stafford.

A Boost for Weatherford Tourism

Mayor Mike Brown says the astronaut is expected to attract tourists from across the country.

“Adding the astronaut to Route 66 just makes sense for Weatherford. It connects our history with our future,” Brown said.
