Washita County Plans Fallen Officers Monument
The Washita County Sheriff’s Office is moving forward with plans to honor the men who gave their lives in service to the county. A new Fallen Officers Monument will soon stand in front of the Washita County Justice Center in Cordell.
The memorial will feature engraved names of county officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their communities. So far, 11 Washita County officers are listed on the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial in Oklahoma City, and eight are recognized on the National Law Enforcement Wall in Washington, D.C.
Honoring Service and Sacrifice
Sheriff Kevin Rozell said the project holds deep personal meaning. His brother, Detention Officer Steven Douglass Rozell, will be added to the National Memorial in 2026. The monument will also honor deputies and police officers including Undersheriff Brian Beck, Deputy Douglas Hanna, and others who lost their lives in the line of duty.
CKenergy has pledged to match donations up to $7,000 toward the $15,700 project cost, helping local contributions go further. Donations can be mailed to the Washita County Justice Center at 400 North McClary in Cordell.
A Lasting Tribute
Sheriff Rozell said the monument will serve as a place for reflection, remembrance, and community connection.
“These men gave everything they had to keep the people of Washita County safe,” he said. “This memorial will stand as a lasting tribute to their service.”
The goal is to complete and dedicate the monument in May 2026 during National Police Week.
