Cleveland County Theft Ring Investigation Expands to Nine Suspects Across Oklahoma
The Cleveland County theft ring investigation has expanded to nine identified suspects, as deputies uncover additional connections between stolen farm equipment, construction site burglaries, narcotics and firearms across central and western Oklahoma.
The investigation gained momentum after a stolen item equipped with a GPS tracker led authorities to a wooded property east of Lake Thunderbird. Deputies recovered more than 558 pieces of suspected stolen merchandise valued at over $30,000, along with drugs and firearms. Investigators are continuing to identify victims and determine whether additional suspects were involved.
Cleveland County Theft Ring Uncovered After GPS Tracker Leads Deputies to Property
The investigation began with a larceny case in Kiowa County, where investigators discovered that one of the stolen items contained a concealed GPS tracking device.
The tracker transmitted a location near Lake Thunderbird in Cleveland County, directing investigators to a property surrounded by woods.
Kiowa County investigators obtained a search warrant and worked with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office to search the location.
What began as an effort to recover property from one theft developed into a much larger investigation involving suspected stolen merchandise from multiple jurisdictions.
According to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office investigation update , detectives have now identified nine suspects connected to the case.
Investigators believe the alleged thefts involved rural properties, construction sites and agricultural operations across Oklahoma.
The recovered property includes expensive tools and farming equipment, with detectives working to determine which items belong to victims in neighboring counties.
The investigation has also involved property theft reports from Oklahoma City, Choctaw and eastern Oklahoma County.
Deputies Recover Stolen Equipment, Drugs and Firearms
Searches connected to the investigation produced more than 558 pieces of suspected stolen merchandise, with a reported value exceeding $30,000.
The property included equipment and tools investigators believe were taken from rural construction sites, farms and private properties.
Deputies also recovered suspected narcotics and materials commonly associated with drug distribution.
Those items included several grams of suspected methamphetamine, more than one pound of marijuana, scales and packaging materials.
The presence of drugs and packaging materials has expanded the investigation beyond property crimes, although authorities have not established that every suspect was involved in narcotics activity.
Investigators also recovered three handguns, two of which were confirmed stolen.
One recovered firearm was linked through investigative evidence to a recent shooting in Nicoma Park, adding another potential connection between the theft investigation and a separate criminal case.
The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office has documented its continuing work to identify stolen property and connect evidence recovered during searches to other investigations.
Detectives are examining the recovered merchandise and firearms to determine whether additional crimes can be linked to the suspects.
Nine Suspects Identified as Search Continues for Wanted Man
The latest developments include the identification of Anthony D. Sparks and Billy J. Magby, two individuals investigators have connected to the broader case.
Sparks was booked into the Cleveland County Jail on a reported $150,000 bond.
He faces felony accusations including second-degree burglary, grand larceny, engaging in a pattern of criminal offenses and entering with intent to steal copper.
Deputies also linked Sparks to a previous burglary at the Cleveland County District 1 barn.
Magby remains wanted, according to the latest information released about the investigation.
Investigators say testing by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation laboratory matched Magby’s DNA to evidence recovered from a stolen vehicle.
Magby also has outstanding felony warrants in Pottawatomie and Pontotoc counties involving allegations of knowingly concealing stolen property.
The Sheriff’s Office announcement identifying additional suspects reflects the continuing expansion of the investigation.
Another suspect, Kaylon Mercer, was apprehended with assistance from the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office after investigators connected him to a rural burglary.
Authorities have indicated that as many as 13 individuals may be connected to the broader investigation, although nine have been identified as suspects so far. That does not mean all 13 have been charged or that all nine identified suspects are in custody.
Cleveland County Sheriff Darrell Weaver has emphasized the impact of the alleged thefts on rural business owners and families.
Detectives are still working to match recovered property with theft reports from other jurisdictions and return identifiable items to their owners.
The investigation remains active, and additional arrests or charges may follow as authorities examine the evidence.
All criminal charges are allegations, and the accused are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
