Turnpike Authority Approves Nearly $1B Bridge for New Connector Road
Commissioners Approve Major East-West Toll Road Construction
Commissioners with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority approved nearly $1 billion in funding for the construction of a massive bridge over the South Canadian River floodplain as part of the state’s new east–west connector toll road project.
Project Cost Comes in Below Expectations
Turnpike officials say the nearly $1 billion price tag is about 30 percent lower than originally estimated by engineers. The bridge will serve as a critical link for the toll road as it crosses the floodplain.
Project Remains Part of Long-Term Turnpike Expansion
The east–west connector is part of the Turnpike Authority’s broader long-range plan to expand transportation corridors across Oklahoma. No construction start date was announced at the time of the vote.
