Tulsa Pushes Back Against Arkansas Wastewater Expansion Near Water Supply

Dispute Dates Back to 2003 Lawsuit

The City of Tulsa is again fighting an expansion of a wastewater treatment plant in Decatur, Arkansas, near the same facility that Tulsa sued in 2003 over wastewater dumping that affected its drinking water supply.

Expansion Would Allow 5 Million Gallons of Discharge

Under the proposed expansion, Decatur would be allowed to discharge more than 5 million gallons of treated wastewater into streams that feed:

  • Lake Eucha

  • Lake Spavinaw

Both lakes are critical to Tulsa’s drinking water supply.

Tulsa Cites Clean Water Act Violations

City officials say the Arkansas facility has already committed multiple permit violations under the Clean Water Act, and they oppose any additional expansion.
