Tulsa Data Center Moratorium Proposed
A proposed Tulsa data center moratorium could temporarily halt new data center development in the City of Tulsa.
Members of the Tulsa City Council are considering a one-year pause on new projects while officials review how the rapid growth of data centers could impact neighborhoods, infrastructure and power demand.
Tulsa Data Center Moratorium Focuses on Community Impact
City Council member Laura Bellis says the proposed Tulsa data center moratorium is intended to ensure economic opportunities do not come at the expense of community well-being.
Bellis said the pause would allow city leaders to evaluate the impact large-scale facilities may have on utilities, land use and nearby residents.
Council Vote Expected Soon
Officials say there are currently five data centers operating in Tulsa, with about 27 more located in the surrounding area.
The Tulsa City Council is expected to vote on the Tulsa data center moratorium in the coming weeks.
