Trump Releases New Campaign Video Targeting Drummond Ahead Of Oklahoma Runoff
President Donald Trump has released a new campaign video ahead of Oklahoma's Republican gubernatorial runoff, renewing his support for former state Sen. Mike Mazzei while sharply criticizing Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond.
The new Trump campaign video comes as Republican voters prepare for the August 25 runoff election between Mazzei and Drummond. In the video, Trump calls Mazzei a "MAGA warrior" while referring to Drummond as a "RINO," or Republican in Name Only, and a "grandstander." The president also praises Mazzei's work as Oklahoma's former budget secretary and his support for the proposed aluminum manufacturing plant in Inola.
Trump Campaign Video Renews Support For Mike Mazzei
The Trump campaign video marks the latest effort by the former president to influence Oklahoma's Republican governor's race after previously endorsing Mazzei before the June primary.
In the video, Trump urges Republican voters to back Mazzei, describing him as the candidate who will advance the America First agenda in Oklahoma. Trump also points to Mazzei's support for the proposed Inola aluminum plant, a project that has become one of the most debated issues in the runoff campaign.
The video gives Mazzei another opportunity to highlight Trump's support as both campaigns work to secure conservative voters before early voting begins.
Drummond Pushes Back On Trump's Criticism
Drummond dismissed Trump's latest criticism and defended his conservative record, arguing he has consistently supported Republican priorities during his time as Oklahoma attorney general.
The attorney general has also accused Mazzei of changing his position on the proposed Inola aluminum project in an effort to win Trump's backing. That issue has become a frequent point of disagreement between the two Republican candidates as they campaign across the state.
The winner of the Republican runoff will advance to the November general election, making the next several weeks critical for both campaigns.
August 25 Runoff Will Decide Republican Nominee
The Republican runoff became necessary after neither candidate received more than 50% of the vote in Oklahoma's June 16 primary election.
Drummond finished slightly ahead of Mazzei in the nine-candidate field, sending both Republicans into the August 25 runoff. The winner will face Democratic nominee Cyndi Munson in the November 3 general election. According to the Oklahoma State Election Board, runoff elections are required when no candidate receives a majority of the vote in a party primary. Election dates, voter information and polling locations are available through the Election Board at https://oklahoma.gov/elections.
With Trump's latest campaign video now circulating online, his endorsement is once again becoming a central issue in one of Oklahoma's most closely watched political races. Whether the renewed support changes the outcome of the runoff will ultimately be decided by Republican voters on August 25.
