Trump National Laboratory proposal outlines Oklahoma-based research hub

Republican gubernatorial candidate Chip Keating is proposing the creation of an Oklahoma-based national research facility called the Trump National Laboratory for Energy and National Security. Keating says the lab would focus on energy innovation, advanced computing, and aerospace and defense technologies, calling it the most ambitious economic and national security initiative in state history.

Under the proposal, the Trump National Laboratory would be headquartered in Oklahoma and designed to attract top-tier researchers, engineers, and private-sector partners. Keating argues that Oklahoma’s existing strengths in energy production and defense infrastructure make it an ideal location for a large-scale federal research operation.

Energy innovation and national security at the core of the proposal

According to Keating, the Trump National Laboratory for Energy and National Security would complement work already being done by national labs overseen by the U.S. Department of Energy while expanding Oklahoma’s role in next-generation technologies. Areas of focus would include energy resilience, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and aerospace defense research.

Keating also points to Oklahoma’s proximity to military installations such as Tinker Air Force Base and its long-standing role in oil, natural gas, and renewable energy development as competitive advantages in securing federal partnerships and investment.

Economic development goals tied to Trump National Laboratory

Supporters of the idea say a facility like the Trump National Laboratory could generate thousands of high-paying jobs, boost university research partnerships, and attract long-term federal funding. Keating says the lab would work alongside Oklahoma colleges, workforce training programs, and private companies to grow the state’s innovation economy.

While the proposal remains conceptual, Keating says he plans to continue discussions with federal officials, industry leaders, and academic institutions to explore feasibility and potential funding pathways.
