Closure Triggered by Heating Loss in Classrooms
Stonewall Public Schools shut down classes today after an underground gas leak was discovered on campus. District officials said the leak caused the loss of heat in most classrooms, leaving conditions unsafe for students and faculty, especially with colder temperatures across Oklahoma this week.
The district did not specify when the leak was first detected but confirmed utility crews were called immediately and the buildings cleared as a precaution.
Crews Working to Identify Leak Source
Natural gas technicians spent the morning locating the exact point of failure and testing the surrounding lines. Because the issue involves an underground line, repairs may require excavation or pressure testing before the buildings can be reopened.
Officials have not given the public a timeline for completion.
School Status for Tomorrow Still Unknown
Parents were told through district alerts that no decision has yet been made regarding whether classes will resume tomorrow. Administrators will wait for clearing from gas technicians and safety inspectors before making the call.
Stonewall families are encouraged to follow district Facebook updates and automated phone alerts for the latest status.
