Stillwater Nurse Anesthetist Arrested on Drug Diversion and Theft Charges

A Stillwater nurse anesthetist arrest has raised serious concerns about patient safety and controlled substance security at a major Oklahoma hospital.

The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (OBN) says Daniel Boring, a certified registered nurse anesthetist, was arrested at his home over the weekend following an investigation that began last week. Boring is currently being held in jail on drug and theft charges connected to alleged actions while working at Stillwater Medical Center.

According to OBN investigators, the Stillwater nurse anesthetist arrest stems from allegations that Boring diverted fentanyl and other controlled substances from two patients while on duty. Investigators say the alleged incidents occurred inside the operating room, where Boring was assigned to assist with medical procedures.

Allegations involve fentanyl diversion inside operating room

OBN officials allege that Boring ingested fentanyl while working and then continued to assist with patient care. Investigators say the alleged diversion raises significant concerns because fentanyl is a powerful opioid used during surgical procedures and must be carefully monitored and documented.

According to the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, diversion of controlled substances in healthcare settings poses serious risks to patients, medical staff, and the integrity of hospital operations. Authorities say healthcare professionals are held to strict standards due to their access to potent medications.

Investigation ongoing as charges move forward

OBN says the investigation remains active and additional charges are possible. Officials have not disclosed whether hospital administrators alerted authorities or how the alleged diversion was initially discovered.

Stillwater Medical Center has not publicly commented on the case, citing the ongoing investigation.

Regulators with the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing could also review the case, as criminal charges may trigger professional licensing action.
