SoonerGuide AI Chatbot Launches For SoonerCare Members
The Oklahoma Health Care Authority has officially launched a new artificial intelligence assistant called the SoonerGuide AI chatbot to help SoonerCare members quickly access answers about eligibility, enrollment, providers, and Medicaid services.
According to the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, the new SoonerGuide AI chatbot was designed to improve customer service experiences while also helping reduce long wait times currently impacting many SoonerCare members across the state.
Officials say the AI system is now available 24 hours a day through both the SoonerCare Helpline and the OHCA website.
The launch represents one of Oklahoma’s largest recent uses of artificial intelligence within public healthcare operations.
SoonerGuide AI Chatbot Handles Common SoonerCare Questions
The new SoonerGuide AI chatbot is programmed to assist users with a wide variety of basic SoonerCare questions and informational requests.
According to the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, the chatbot currently operates in:
English
Spanish
Vietnamese
When members access the system online or by phone, they are greeted by the AI assistant before being connected elsewhere if needed.
The chatbot is capable of answering questions involving:
Income eligibility guidelines
SoonerCare program information
Provider changes
SoonerSelect details
Mail notices and letters
Enrollment guidance
Officials emphasize the SoonerGuide AI chatbot does not make official eligibility determinations or provide medical or legal advice.
Users can also request to speak directly with a live representative at any point during the interaction.
OHCA Says AI Will Help Staff Focus On Complex Cases
According to OHCA CEO Clay Bullard, the new SoonerGuide AI chatbot is intended to create major operational efficiencies throughout Oklahoma’s Medicaid system.
Bullard stated the AI assistant will help provide instant answers for routine questions while freeing human staff members to focus on more complicated member situations and eligibility processing tasks.
State officials say reducing routine call volume may also help shorten hold times for members requiring direct case assistance.
According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, state Medicaid systems nationwide are increasingly exploring AI-assisted technologies to improve customer service, automate repetitive administrative tasks, and streamline benefit processing operations.
SoonerGuide AI Chatbot Will Not Collect Sensitive Information
The Oklahoma Health Care Authority says the SoonerGuide AI chatbot is intentionally limited in how it interacts with personal information.
Officials stress the system is not designed to request sensitive financial details, Social Security numbers, or medical records from members.
According to the Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services, state agencies deploying AI systems must comply with strict cybersecurity and data privacy standards.
The SoonerGuide system is now fully active through the SoonerCare Helpline at 800-987-7767 and on the official OHCA website.
Officials say additional upgrades and expanded AI capabilities could continue rolling out in future phases as the program develops.
