Navy Expands Partnership With SkyDweller Aero
The U.S. Navy has expanded its partnership with SkyDweller Aero, an Oklahoma City-based aerospace firm. The company designs solar-powered aircraft that can stay airborne indefinitely while carrying heavy payloads.
The Navy awarded a new contract to integrate Nokia’s 5G system, allowing global communications from virtually anywhere on Earth.
Innovative Oklahoma Technology Takes Flight
The SkyDweller aircraft has proven capable of continuous operation without fuel.It can support intelligence, surveillance, and communications for both defense and humanitarian efforts.
Navy engineers praised the aircraft’s reliability, calling it a “leap forward in unmanned endurance technology.”SkyDweller officials said the new contract validates years of Oklahoma innovation.
Energy-Efficient Flight Systems
Powered entirely by solar energy, SkyDweller’s design reduces emissions while maintaining long-duration flight. The platform could eventually support commercial services, including disaster recovery and scientific research.
“Solar aviation gives us global reach with zero emissions,” said one company executive. The project merges clean energy and national defense—two industries where Oklahoma plays a growing role.
Oklahoma at the Center of Aerospace Growth
Oklahoma continues to strengthen its reputation as a hub for aerospace innovation. SkyDweller’s success complements Tinker Air Force Base operations and the state’s expanding aviation manufacturing base.
The Navy said testing will continue through 2026 with potential for large-scale deployment afterward. SkyDweller officials thanked the Oklahoma community for continued support of homegrown innovation.
