Skiatook Man Arrested After Violent Attack on 10-Year-Old Stepson

Deputies Say Knife Was Thrown at Child’s Head

A Skiatook man previously ruled incompetent to stand trial is now accused of attacking his 10-year-old stepson with a large kitchen knife. Deputies say Jacob Gilmartin threw a 10-inch knife at the child’s head, then slashed his arm “down to the bone.”

Child Escapes and Calls for Help

The injured boy ran to a neighbor’s home and called 911, likely preventing further harm. He is expected to recover.

Case Moves to Cherokee Nation Jurisdiction

Gilmartin, who caused two DUI crashes in 2021—including one that killed another driver—was declared incompetent in federal court six months ago. Because he is Native, this new case will be prosecuted by the Cherokee Nation.

Gilmartin remains in custody.
