Service Oklahoma facility purchase approved

Service Oklahoma facility purchase approved by House
The Service Oklahoma facility is set to become permanent after lawmakers approved a plan to purchase the building.
According to News 9, the Oklahoma House passed legislation backed by Representative Dell Kerbs to acquire the site currently housing the agency.

The move would transition the location from a temporary lease into a long-term home for Service Oklahoma, which handles driver services and vehicle registrations.
Lawmakers say the purchase provides stability for the agency and the public it serves.
Service Oklahoma facility located on former Chesapeake campus
The Service Oklahoma facility is located on the east side of the former Chesapeake Energy campus in northwest Oklahoma City.
The agency is currently in the third year of a four-year lease at the site.
Annual lease costs exceed $826,000, prompting lawmakers to consider purchasing the property instead.
The broader campus, now associated with Expand Energy, has undergone significant changes, including redevelopment and property sales.
Lawmakers cite cost savings and long-term stability
Supporters of the Service Oklahoma facility purchase say the move will provide financial and operational benefits.
Owning the property could reduce long-term expenses compared to ongoing lease payments.
Officials say securing a permanent location ensures continuity for services such as driver licenses, REAL ID processing, and vehicle tag renewals.
Public infrastructure decisions like this are often guided by standards from the National Association of State Budget Officers, which promotes responsible fiscal planning.
Campus redevelopment continues around agency location
The Service Oklahoma facility will remain on the east side of the campus as surrounding areas continue to evolve.
The west portion of the property has been sold to Robinson Park for mixed-use development.
Oversight of state agency operations and facilities also falls under entities like the Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services, which helps manage state resources.
Lawmakers say the purchase ensures Service Oklahoma remains accessible while development continues nearby.
The measure now moves forward as officials finalize plans for the acquisition.
