Senator James Langford introduced his bill, the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Security Act, that would reduce U.S. dependence on China for our pharmaceuticals. Lankford said that because China objects to some of our foreign policy decisions, they have cut off certain chemicals we use to manufacture drugs.
“Right now, there are about 10,000 what is called ‘active pharmaceutical ingredients’ that come from China,” Lankford said. “Many of those exclusively from China. Most of our generic drugs come from China.”
