Oklahoma City, OK-Senator Lankford Affirms Stance on Russia, Ukraine, and U.S. Troop Involvement
Putin Labeled a “War Criminal”
Oklahoma Senator James Lankford reaffirmed his position that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “war criminal and a thug.” Lankford emphasized that while negotiating with Putin may offer a pathway to peace, it does not absolve Russia’s role in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Sanctions on Russia and Its Oil Buyers
Lankford expressed support for placing sanctions not only on Russia but also on countries that continue to buy Russian oil.
“If we cut off the flow of oil revenue, we cut off Putin’s ability to continue this war,” Lankford said.
U.S. Troop Role in Ukraine
While praising Oklahoma National Guardsmen who spent a year in Ukraine before the war providing training, Lankford made it clear he agrees with former President Trump that U.S. troops should not be deployed as part of future support packages.
Oklahoma’s Connection to Ukraine
Guardsmen previously trained Ukrainian forces before the invasion
Oklahoma continues to send aid and support, but without direct combat roles
