Statewide Spike in Rabies Confirmed
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture has confirmed 32 rabies cases so far this year. The virus has been detected in cattle, dogs, horses, a cat, and even a goat.
Vaccination Urged for Pets and Livestock
Officials stress the importance of keeping pets and livestock vaccinations up to date to prevent transmission.
Agriculture officials said: “Rabies is nearly always fatal once symptoms appear. Vaccination is the best and only effective prevention.”
With rabies present in both domestic and wild animals, experts warn the risk of exposure is higher than in recent years.
