Protesters Confront Stillwater Teen Convicted of Rape at Courthouse

Outrage Over No Jail Time Draws Protesters

A Stillwater teenager convicted of rape faced public outrage as he returned to court at the Payne County Courthouse, where demonstrators gathered to protest what they see as an unjust outcome.

Jesse Butler appeared before a judge Tuesday to ensure he remains in compliance with the terms of his youthful offender agreement.

Butler previously pleaded no contest to 10 charges involving the rape of two high school students.

Community Upset Over Sentencing

Despite the severity of the charges, Butler was not sentenced to jail time. Instead, he received:

  • Community service

  • Mandatory counseling

  • Strict supervision under youthful offender status

The lack of incarceration sparked widespread anger across the community and online, with many calling for tougher penalties.

Judge Issues Strong Warning

During Tuesday’s hearing, the judge reminded Butler that any violation of the agreement would send him to prison as an adult, potentially for a lengthy term.

Court officials confirmed Butler remains under close monitoring.
