Massive Power Outage Darkens Eastern Oklahoma County
Thousands Wake Up Without Electricity
A major power outage struck early this morning in the Choctaw and Harrah areas, leaving up to 10,000 customers without electricity. The outage hit before sunrise, causing widespread disruption for households, small businesses, and schools.
Utility companies confirmed crews were immediately dispatched to locate the cause, but no timetable for full restoration has been announced.
School Districts Forced to Cancel Classes
Because of the outage, Choctaw–Nicoma Park Schools and Harrah Public Schools closed all campuses today. Administrators said the lack of lights, heating, technology, and kitchen power made it impossible to open the buildings safely.
Districts expect to evaluate later today whether classes can resume tomorrow.
Community Advised to Exercise Caution
Residents are urged to stay clear of any downed power lines and to check outage maps for updates. Eastern Oklahoma County has seen repeated weather-related and equipment-related outages over the past year, though the cause of today’s blackout has not yet been confirmed.
